ANNUAL REPORT 2021 Created in 1958, PizzaHut hasbeen present in Portugal since 1990, en- joying a successful journey that began in 1990 with the inaugura- tion of the first Pizza Hut restau- rant in Avenida Fontes Pereira de Melo, in Lisbon. The arrival of Pizza Hut in Portugal was the first time a major international brand of the modern restaurant persuasion be- gan operating in our country and represented a new form of think- ing the restaurant business, more modern, more welcoming and with higher standards of quality in operations, product, and training. The brand covers mainland Portu- gal and the islands, with 100 op- erational units. During this year five new restau- rants were opened: a unit special- ised in deliveries was opened in Cacém, and the brand is now also operating in Charneca da Capar- ica, Brejos de Azeitão, Caldas da Rainha, and Lamego, providing PORTUGAL eat-in services, take away, deliver- ies and support for aggregating platforms. Pizza Hut was also affected by the pandemic, and was forced to temporarily close some of its ser- vices and restaurants. However, the “new normal” was established as quickly as possible, with a new and thorough safety plan called IN HUT WE TRUST, according to which Pizza Hut adopted new methods and routines to ensure the safety of customers and staff, while always paying close atten- tion to the evolution of the situa- tion and following all the recom- mendations of the Health Board. The strengthening of safety meas- ures can be seen in the approval of the SAFETY COVID by ALS in- spection, a thorough international approval process that ensures maximum safety for employees and clients in the restaurants and throughout the whole operation. 83
